ISLAMABAD, Nov 5: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani announced on Wednesday that the government would pay Rs300,000 for each person killed in the recent earthquake in Balochistan and Rs100,000 to each of the injured.

The prime minister would personally distribute cheques among affected families.

The amount is in addition to the Rs200,000 compensation for the dead and Rs50,000 for the injured announced earlier by President Asif Ali Zaradri.

The prime minister directed the provincial authorities to make an assessment of houses destroyed by the quake. The Balochistan government has said that the survey will be completed in about 10 days.

The prime minister directed the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority to work in cooperation with the provincial government and the army to assess the damage in affected areas.
