LAYYAH, Nov 5: Peasants and activists of Jamaat-i-Islami took out a rally to protest price-hike, electricity outages and alleged political victimisation at the hands of local police, here on Wednesday.

The protesters led by former MMA MPA Ch Asghar Ali Gujjar condemned the registration of what they called “fake” cases against political opponents by PML-N MPAs at Choubara, Chowk Azam and Kot Sultan police stations.

The protesters marched on Circular Road, Shaheed Road and Choubara Road to reach the TDA Chowk where they staged a sit-in. Speaking on the occasion, Asghar Gujjar said that SHOs of Choubara, Chowk Azam and Kot Sultan police stations were catering to personal interests of PML-N MPAs.

The Choubara police was also helping Nasir Magassi, the brother of MPA Qaisar Magassi, occupy hundreds of acres of agricultural land of poor peasants, he alleged. He warned that people would besiege the police stations if SHOs were not transferred.
