ISLAMABAD, Nov 5: The Public Accounts Committee asked tax officials on Wednesday to settle cases of tax default of billions of rupees in three months.
After a brief presentation by the Federal Board of Revenue on irregularities in recovery, PAC Chairman Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan asked the board to discuss the matter with officials of the auditor general’s office in a meeting of the departmental audit committee (DAC) and come up with a clear picture within three months.
An audit report on direct and indirect taxes for the year 2005-06 has suggested that the PAC should determine reasons behind non-recovery of Rs41.613 million at a time when the country was facing a severe balance of payment crisis.
