NAWABSHAH, Nov 4: Under trial prisoners, recently shifted from Hyderabad central jail to Nawabshah in the backdrop of mutiny there, staged a demonstration outside the judicial lockup of session court here on Tuesday to protest against torture by the jail administration and delay in court proceedings.
The protesters, including Ahmed Ali Umrani, Manzoor Jamali Liaquat Chandio, Mohammed Saleh and others, told journalists that the jail administration extort monthly and those who fail to pay the monthly, are subjected to torture.
They alleged that they were also not being provided facilities as per jail manual despite directives issued by the Advisor to Sindh chief minister on jail affairs. They said that Advocate -General Sindh Yousuf Leghari met with them in Hyderabad central jail a few days back and assured them that their legal demands would be fulfilled, but in vain.
They said that many of them were facing trial for the last seven to eight year and their cases are adjourned to a new date on almost every hearing. They demanded of the president, prime minister and chief minister of Sindh to take notice of the inhuman behaviour of the jail authorities and take action against officials involved in the torture.
FIRE: More than 10 shops and two houses were reduced to ashes in two different fire incidents near Nawabshah on Tuesday. Shops of Arif Ali, Ameer Ali Zawar Photo, Gulzar Ali, Farooq, Shafi and Amjad and Fakir Mohammad as a result of fire caused by electric short circuit in the shops adjacent to Dargah of Sakhi Jam Dattar in Jam Saheb town. The shop owners extinguished fire on self-help basis.
In another incident, houses of Abdul Ghafoor and Abdul Rahim were gutted and wheat stock was reduced to ashes.
The fire was caused by a flame of a stove in a house at Abdul Rahim Bhangwar Village near Nawabshah.
