ISLAMABAD, Nov 4: Maulana Fazlur Rahman, chief of his own faction of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, met Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday to protest against omission of the nominees of his party from the list of federal ministers who took oath on Monday.

According to sources, the JUI-F wanted some specific ministries which were given to the PPP and other coalition partners.

At the meeting on Tuesday, Mr Gilani agreed that two JUI-F nominees would soon be inducted into the cabinet.

The PPP had earlier agreed to give a least three cabinet posts to the JUI-F in view of its larger representation in the Senate and one minister of the party was sworn in with the first batch.

According to the sources, the Maulana also expressed reservations over what he termed the government’s non-serious attitude to implementation of the 14-point resolution adopted by both houses of parliament on Oct 22.

He reiterated that Taliban should be contacted for negotiations in the spirit of the resolution.

He also demanded an end to military operation and said that it was causing heavy losses of life on both sides.

According to a handout, the prime minister praised the role played by coalition partners and unanimity of views on various national, regional and global issues.

He said the government was taking steps for people’s welfare.

The JUI-F chief commended Mr Gilani for taking the coalition partners along on every issue of national importance. He reiterated his party’s full support to the government for strengthening democratic institutions and for the people’s wellbeing.
