KARACHI, Nov 4: About seven main blood banks will be set up in different parts of the province to cater to the blood requirement for transfusion purpose.

This was stated by Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority secretary Dr Zahid Ansari, who put the cost of the scheme at Euro 23.1 million.

Dr Ansari said that the blood banks were being established in collaboration with Germany, adding that four blood banks would be set up in Karachi and one each in Hyderabad, Nawabshah and Larkana.

In the next phase, he said, more blood banks would be set up in other parts of Sindh during the 2008-2011period.

He observed that establishment of the main blood banks would greatly help the patients with blood diseases.

Besides, he added, the facilities would play an important role in meeting emergency needs.—PPI
