ATTOCK, Nov 2: The Rangu police on Sunday foiled a bid to smuggle wheat flour from Punjab to NWFP through a river route near Ghari Matani village and seized 50 bags of the staple food.

Sub Divisional Police officer (SDPO) Hazro police circle DSP Syed Akbar Abbas said on a tip-off that, he led a team of law enforcers and confiscated a flour-laden wagon.

The wagon driver was waiting on the Indus River’s bank for boats to transport the bags of flour to the other side. The police said the seized commodity weighed 2,500 kilogrammes.

The Rangu police registered a smuggling case against the accused, Zafar Ali, and started investigations.

Sources said smugglers were active in the Ghari Matani area, adding that the activity was continuing with the alleged involvement of the policemen posted at the Shadi Khan patrolling post, situated just few kilometers from the village.—Correspondent
