MIRPURKHAS, Nov 1: A large number of activists of Hari Mazdoor Ittehad, Nojawan Sindh Samaji Sangat, HRCP, Shaheen Development Organisation and Bhandar Welfare Association held a rally on Saturday to express solidarity with 75 bonded labourers who were still in the captivity of influential landlord Thakur Nazeer Kaimkhani.
The rally led by Wajid Leghari and Kanji Ranomal Bheel of HRCP began its march from the Railway Station Chowk and terminated outside the press club.
The protesters raised slogans against the landlord and condemned police for their failure in recovering the 75 peasants. They apprehended that the peasants might have been killed and demanded that the Sindh chief minister and governor to transfer the case to DPO and ensure that the culprits were arrested.
An FIR lodged at Nauabad police has accused Kaimkhani, his son Naeem Kaimkhani and his henchmen of keeping labourers in illegal detention.
Later, they met with Hurmi, Tejan and Hakiman who were on a hunger strike unto death, which entered its fifth day on Saturday. The women called off their hunger strike after they were assured that detainees would be recovered.
RESIGNATIONS: Fifteen office-bearers of the Mirpurkhas chapter of the Pakistan Medical Association resigned on Saturday, citing poor performance of senior office-bearers as reason.
Members executive committee Dr Ghazi Khan Marri, Dr Mohammad Saeed, Dr Iqbal Khatri, Dr Farzana Shah, Dr Manthar Thebo, Dr Zaheer, Dr Fida Hussain Dr Nadir Raza, Dr Hamida Leghari, Dr Abdul Hameed Soomro, Dr Ashok Kumar, Dr Khalid Moosa Memon, vice-president Dr Zahid Memon, Dr Mohammed Tariq Arain and joint secretary Dr Rahmatullah Rahimoon sent a joint resignation to the president of PMA Mirpurkhas and general secretary.
They accused the Mirpurkhas PMA of working for personal benefits instead of collective good of doctors.
