MITHI, Nov 1: Tharparkar DCO Samiuddin Siddiqui has urged the senior member of the Board of Revenue and Sindh Relief Commissioner to declare the entire district as calamity-hit area excepting Bhitaro, Serhi, Kaloi, Dodharo, Phant Naukot and Wasaipoto. He said in a communication to the two high-ups that people were migrating with their cattle to safer areas in search of sustenance as the lack of rain during monsoon season from June 15 to August in this arid region had created drought-like conditions and left them little food and fodder to hold onto their dwellings.
He said that the mukhtiarkars of Mithi, Diplo, Nagarparkar and Chhachhro talukas had also reported that the district had been hit hard by drought-like conditions.
Tharparkar district council had also passed a resolution at its session on Oct 17, demanding that the government declare the district as calamity-hit.
Taking into consideration reports from mukhtiarkars as well as the resolution on prevailing drought-like condition, the DCO urged the Relief Commissioner that relief package as admissible under the calamity rules preferably in shape of subsidy in wheat and fodder should be announced for the district.
