MULTAN, Oct 28: Five people died and three others injured after the roof of a three-storey house collapsed in Wahdat Colony here on Tuesday, say Rescue 1122 officials.

The three-marla house of Munir Husain is reported to be in dilapidated condition. Rescuers when removed the debris found Mukhtar, Muhammad Irshad, Azmat and Asima dead while Nasreen Bibi later died at Nishtar Hospital. Three people -- Munir, Shakeel and Khalil -- were injured.

City District Nazim Faisal Mukhtar directed the district coordination officer to launch an inquiry if the map of the house was approved against the rules. He said it was ironic the construction of illegal buildings was going on and maps were being approved by the Building Department against the by-laws.

RALLY: The Agriculture Department organised a rally to raise awareness among farmers about wheat sowing plans. Executive District Officer (EDO) Syed Zaffaryab Haider Naqvi said target for wheat sowing in the district was 500,000 acres.

He said his department would educate the farmers about the use of modern technology to increase per acre yield.

Agriculture Extension District Officer Zulfiqar Ahmed Cheema said a strict action would be taken against the dealers involved in selling inputs at high prices.
