FIR against 11-year-old ‘quack’

FAISALABAD, Oct 27: An 11-year-old boy, nominated in a first information report (FIR) for doing illegal medicine, is battling the court proceedings to prove his innocence.

On Sept 27, Ghulam Mohammadabad police registered an FIR against 11-year-old Khurram Shahzad and Haroon Ahmad, on the report of Health Deputy District Officer (DDO) Dr Riaz Chaddar.

The FIR states that Dr Chaddar raided the clinic in street No 11, Mohalla Usman Ghani, on Sept 25 and found Haroon (the alleged owner of the clinic) and Shahzad illegally treating patients.

Dr Chaddar said the accused were injecting patients with one syringe.

Shahzad’s family moved the additional district and sessions court and got a pre-arrest bail on Oct 8 after producing his school record as the suspect was just 11 years old. The other suspect is also on bail.

The court summoned the district administration and Health Department officers on Oct 15, but neither officials nor police attended the hearing. The court will take up the case on Nov 18.

The family claims Shahzad would go to the clinic to get tuition from Haroon.
