KARACHI, Oct 26: NWFP took command of their Pentangular Cup match against Balochistan after reducing the host team to 66 for three in their first innings at the Bugti Stadium in Quetta on Sunday.
After declaring their inning at 550 for five, with Adnan Raees making a career-beat 205, NWFP bowlers made short work of Balochistan top-order batting.
Skipper Misbah-ul-Haq, batting on 10, remains Balochistan’s last hope of averting the follow on when play resumes on Monday.
Adnan, resuming at 122, was finally dismissed after hitting 20 boundaries during marathon 590-minute vigil at the crease. The 27-old Mardan-born left-hander negotiated 387 balls.
Shoaib Khan was unbeaten on 81 when Umar Gul opted to close NWFP innings.
Saeed Anwar Junior, who took three for 136 in 42 overs of left-arm spin bowling, failed with the bat when he was snared by leg-spinner Yasir Shah for 10.
Balochistan opener Shoaib Khan Junior, a mysterious selection in the Pakistan squad for the recent Twenty20 quadrangular tournament in Canada recently, was bowled by Umar Gul for 10. Fellow opener Usman Tariq scored 24 befor falling to left-arm pacer Junaid Khan.
