LAHORE, Oct 26: Getting to run in a race after a long time, the bay filly Spiritual Song won the supporting event run over 1,100 metres during the Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.

Trained by Haji Fazal Hadi and ridden by jockey Shahid Rehman, the winner edged out the filly Eve in a closely-contested race. Iconic and Richy Dancer completed the frame.

Earlier, the fourth and feature event, the Khanewal Plate Class IV division II and III was cancelled for paucity of runners.

After the last-minute withdrawals there was another dropping of three horses leaving as much in the field. So under the racing rules, the race had to be cancelled.

Jockey Shahid Rehman and trainer Mohammad Afzal shared the day’s racing honours, each bringing home a double. Shahid rode Zaafran to a magnificent victory in the third race and then followed it up partnering Spiritual Song in the fifth race.

Trainer Mohammad Afzal sent out Victory Sargent and Princess Aman in the first and second race of the day.

The Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards were not satisfied with the running of bay mare Hermatic in the second race and suspended her rider Javaid Iqbal for six months along with a fine of Rs10,000.

Hermatic trailed third and never changed her position till the dying strides.

Four favourites won in a card of five races.
