HYDERABAD, Oct 25: Jirga system is an impediment in the development of society and it is the duty of progressive forces to join hands for elimination of this outdated tradition.

This was said by Women Action Forum leaders Irfana Mallah, Mehrunnisa Larik, Nazeer Qureshi and Najma Panhwar while exchanging views with the students of Nazareth Girls College here on Saturday.

They said that the forum had launched a struggle against jirga system and initiated a signature campaign to create an awakening among people against the evil.

They said that the leaders of the forum had so far visited Sindh and Mehran universities and Zubaida College to get signatures of teachers and students against jirga system. They said that students could perform a vital role against the outdated custom which sanctified so-called honour killing.
