HYDERABAD, Oct 24: Dr A.Q. Mughal on Friday assumed the charge of the office of vice-chancellor of the Sindh Agriculture University which has remained in the grip of turmoil for four months due to its employees protest against alleged mismanagement and malpractices of former vice- chancellor Dr Basheer Ahmed Shaikh.

Dr Mughal had retired from the same university as a professor of engineering faculty.

Hundreds of university employees lined up at the Hyderabad-Mirpurkhas road to receive the new vice-chancellor and showered rose petals on him. He was garlanded by the leaders of the employees, Hussain Bux Veesar, Karam Ali Punhoon and Syed Abdul Majeed Shah Rashidi.

In a brief speech, Dr Mughal He held out an assurance that genuine problems of the employees would be resolved and injustices against them ended.

He said that the great institute had suffered a lot and it was now the duty of the teachers, employees, students and civil society to perform their due role in the development of the university and make good its losses.

It was because of the university that the Tandojam area had seen the face of development, Dr Mughal said.

The employees’ leaders announced that the employees would deposit their one-day salary every month in the university account for one year. The employees welcomed the announcement with clapping.

The vice-chancellor was also welcomed by a SAU Teachers Association delegation, led by Dr Ameer Bux Kalhoro.
