NEW YORK, Oct 24: A legendary Italian restaurant in New York turned 100 years old on Thursday — and so did its prices.

John’s of 12th Street, a cosy spot popular with the stars, celebrated with a lunch menu costing pennies, not dollars, just like back in 1908.

The chicken parmigana dish went for 75 cents instead of the regular $14.95, manicotti at 75 cents, not $10.95, and baked clams at 50 cents, rather than $10.95. For $1.10, the time travelling diner could pack in an appetizer, main dish, dessert and cup of coffee.

The lower Manhattan restaurant, opened by Italian immigrant John Pucciatti, has been the haunt of famous visitors ranging from former first lady Jackie Kennedy Onassis to rocker Pete Townsend and Hollywood megastar Tom Cruise.—AFP
