KARACHI: Young woman dies in accident

KARACHI, Oct 22: A 25-year-old woman was killed and her cousin was injured when a bus hit their motorcycle at Bilal Chowrangi in Korangi on Wednesday, police and witnesses said.

They said that the victim, Samreen alias Naureen, daughter of Khalil Ahmed, was a factory worker and her cousin, Mohammed Iqbal, was taking her to the factory when at around 8:15am an L-1 route bus knocked both down. She was a resident of Zia Colony, Korangi No 1, the police said.

Following the accident, the bus driver fled abandoning his vehicle that was later impounded by the police. The police registered a case (FIR 1005/2008) against the unknown driver for killing the woman by reckless driving under Section 320 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

38 vehicles taken away

Thirty eight vehicles – 29 motorcycles and nine cars – and 43 cellular phones were taken away in different parts of the city on Wednesday.

Officials said that five automobiles, 11 motorcycles and 17 mobile phones were snatched at gunpoint, while four cars, 18 motorcycles and 26 cellular phones were stolen in the city.
