LAHORE, Oct 21: A card of six events, comprising mostly runners belonging to unknown pedigree, awaits race-goers during the midweek Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Wednesday.

In all, 70 horses, barring last-minute withdrawals, will vie for the events to be contested over the sprinting distance of 800 metres.

The feature event, the Talangang Plate class VI division I and II has 13 runners. Of them three come in to reckoning. They are: Blitz, Dream Memories and Jang Ju. Three-year-old chestnut colt Blitz is a fast sprinter of all and should win the race. However, he may find dark-bay filly Dream Memories and bay colt Jang Ju constant thorn in her way to victory.

Blitz is owned by Syed Pervez Hussain and trained by Sohail Aziz. This will be the second race of the day.

A big field of 16 runners is to line up in the supporting event, the Talagang Plate class VI division III and IV combined. Of them all, the three-year-old colt Victory Sargent with a smart victory to his credit looks the best proposition to be home safely ahead his rivals. The way the colt won last Wednesday there hardly seems any chance of his being beaten by those, whom he beat by nearly a street’s margin.

Hermatic, Bubbly and High Quality should fight for places in this fourth race of the day.

In the opener, the Sargodha Plate class VII division I, three horses look on chance, namely, Delux, Pretty and Best Owner. They should fight for picking up the spoils. On handicap this should be a closely contested affair between Delux and Pretty. However, if one goes by the name Pretty should prove really pretty for the backers.

The third race, as it always consists of horses in the last division of class VII. The one stable whose runners fly the silks of former national hockey skipper Munir Dar has fielded three runners-Independence Day, Pakistani and Sudden Attack.

On the present form, Independence Day has an edge over Sudden Attack and Pakistani.

The trio’s only rival could be King’s UK on the run of races and form at present. The general opinion of racing pundits about the unknown pedigree horses is not good as they consider them unreliable and inconsistent in performance. Unscrupulous owners take benefit of the prevailing impression.

The fifth race, Sargodha Plate class VII division II has 10 horses, mostly those appearing regularly on the board. Some are really machines than horses. On chance are: Candidate, Muskan, Pure Power and Bobby Love, Whosoever gets better support from the saddle can win the race. The handicap goes in favour of Muskan.

The sixth and last race, the Sargodha plate class VII division III has 11 runners. If all chance horses are on job it will be a seesaw tussle among the contestants. The prominent being Leader’s Wing, Sohail, Miss Mano and Blank Cheque.

The first race will be held at 2:00pm.
