Jewellers’ strike continues

LARKANA, Oct 21: Representatives of Larkana Jewellers Association registered their protest before the Sindh chief minister while he was on his way to Naudero on Tuesday.

Abdul Sattar Shaikh, president of the association, told Dawn that they had protested against the deteriorating law and order situation in Larkana district and complained against poor performance of the DPO.

The chief minister said that he had admonished the DPO and situation would improve, claimed Sattar.

Sindh Law Minister Ayaz Soomro who was with the chief minister asked the jewellers that within a couple of days he along with the regional police officer, deputy inspector-general of police and DPO would visit them and discuss the situation.

Mr Shaikh said they had also demonstrated outside the Naudero House against the indifferent attitude of Larkana police that had failed to recover gold ornaments looted from three traders and arrest the culprits.

The jewellers continued their strike to protest against an incident of robbery of gold ornaments from three jewellery shops.

Four days ago some unidentified robbers had deprived three traders dealing in gold of 933 grams of gold and since then the goldsmiths had shut down their business.

They accused police of a lukewarm attitude and delaying in registering an FIR.—Correspondent
