KARACHI, Oct 19: Pakistan Steel and Afghan FC drew 1-1, Karachi Port Trust (KPT) beat Habib Bank Limited (HBL) 2-1 and Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) defeated Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) 3-1 in the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) matches played at different venues in the city on Sunday.

Afghan FC scored first, in the seventh minute, against Pakistan Steel at the Pakistan Steel Township Ground through their international striker Hayatullah. But they failed to hold on to the lead when Pakistan Steel’s striker Mohammad Arshad restored parity in the 39th minute. The 1-1 score at inteval remained till the blowing of the final whistle.

The KPT-HBL encounter, that was moved from the CDGK Stadium to the People’s Sports Complex, saw KPT’s winger Zahid Ahmed opening for them through a header in the 28th minute. The score at interval was 1-0.

KPT doubled the lead in the 80th minute through their striker Lal Bakhsh. HBL could only come up with a consolation goal through their spearhead Bilal Ahmed in the 88th minute.

The match also saw the bankers’ defender Aurangzeb getting the matching orders through a red card.

Meanwhile, Korangi Baloch Stadium witnessed the most exciting match of all. Earning the lead in the 31st minute through their defender Haji Mohammad, PIA doubled it in the 33rd minute through striker Shakir Lashari.

The second session remained barren mostly but there was plenty of action in extra injury time. First Shakir scored the third goal for PIA in the 90+1 minute and then KESC came up with their consolation goal in the 90+3 minute.

Monday’s fixtures: Pakistan Television v Army at the PSB Ground, Islamabad; Navy v Khan Research Laboratories at the Naval Complex, Islamabad. Both matches kick off at 4.00pm.
