Head-hitters claim another life

LAHORE, Oct 19: Head-hitters allegedly stoned to death a middle-aged man outside his house near Auqaf Colony of Green Town early on Sunday.

Police said Muhammad Anwer (55) was asleep in open when he was hit on his head with some hard object.

Anwer, who was found unconscious by his family after 5am, was shifted to Jinnah Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at around 9am.

Police was waiting for autopsy report after registering a case against unidentified people on the complaint of victim’s son Munawar Hussain.

Green Town Circle DSP Mehr Mumtaz said police had found a brick at the crime scene, which was most-probably used in the attack.

Anwer, a father of four, was passing retired life and used to sleep in open frequently, he added.

When asked why the police had failed to trace the serial killers, he said police officials patrolled the area between

2-7am to control the menace but so far they had failed to trace the culprits despite having found some important clues.

“The investigations into these incidents point to involvement of a single person who operates between 4-6am and uses a brick for the attack.

He hits the back of the victim’s head, causing internal injury,” he said.

In some cases, the DSP said, cash and cell phones are also taken away. After some incidents, one of which took place in C-II Block of Green Town, some witnesses claimed to have seen a young man escaping on a bicycle.

The DSP said the police were working on different lines in the light of evidence collected from the crime scene to trace the killers, who operated in a belt comprising Liaqatabad, Kot Lakhpat, Green Town, Township, Johar Town and Faisal Town.

He said residents of Green Town had not quitted the habit of sleeping in open despite a campaign launched through mosques, elected representatives and door to door visits against the practice.
