Karsaz FIR ill-timed: Qazi

Published October 20, 2008

GUJRAT, Oct 19: Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed on Sunday criticised the government for registering an FIR of the Karsaz case against Hameed Gull and PML-Q parliamentary leader Pervaiz Elahi.

Speaking at a ceremony at Qurtaba Mosque, the JI chief said this was not the time to take such decisions, adding this was the time to forge national unity. He said action must be taken against former military dictator Pervez Musharraf for Karsaz-like incidents.

Ahmed called upon the parliament to take a U-turn on the ‘war on terror’, say no to the US and disassociate itself from American policies. “I can guarantee that peace will return to the troubled tribal belt after the government disassociates itself from the American war”.

He said when Nato forces were contacting the Taliban leadership in Afghanistan and France and Britain were describing the war in Afghanistan as “a futile exercise”, the forces in Pakistan were intensifying operation against “the tribal people”.—Correspondent
