SUKKUR, Oct 18: The government, instead of providing basic necessities to people, was disposing of profit-earning assets for its own gains, complained participants of a multi-party conference held in regards to the proposed privatisation of Qadirpur gas filed. They vowed to do all they can to foil the government move of privatisation.

The pledge was given by the leaders and activists of Sindh National Front, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Sindh Shahree Ittehad, Sunni Tehreek and others during the conference held in Sukkur on Saturday.

Shahzado Bhutto, Maulana Abdul Haq Mahar, Fazal ur-Rehman, Mohammad Abid and dozen of others strongly opposed the proposed privatisation of gas field. They said that the government had miserably failed in providing relief to people, while the country was passing through multiple crises, including power, wheat, flour, unemployment, price hike, and lawlessness.

However, rulers were busy in foreign tours, they lamented.

They said that the Qadirpur gas field was not only earning huge profit but also providing gas to nearby power plant. They said that the gas field provided jobs to local youth, besides other benefits.

They alleged that the government was trying to sell it at a throwaway price which will never be allowed. They warned of widespread agitation, if the government goes ahead with its plan.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the Sindh United Party was held under the chairmanship Jalal Mehmood Shah at a local hotel in Sukkur.

The meeting strongly condemned the proposed privatisation of Qadirpur gas and announced a protest movement to force reversal of the decision.
