QUETTA, Oct 16: The Balochistan National Party (Mengal) has accused the government of pursuing the policies of former military rulers by continuing military operations in Balochistan and tribal areas.

A meeting of the central executive committee, held with its acting president Sajid Tareen in the chair, decided to postpone the party’s national council session because of the absence of Sardar Akhtar Mengal who was abroad for medical treatment. The session was scheduled for Oct 23.

According to a statement issued here, the meeting criticised the government and said its policies had further deepened the crisis in the country, particularly in Balochistan.

It alleged that intelligence agencies were harassing innocent Baloch people and political workers were being detained without registration of cases.

It said people in the province had hoped that the government formed after the February elections reverse the policies of the Musharraf government and stop military operation, trace missing persons, release political workers and start rehabilitating displaced tribesmen of Dera Bugti and Kohlu districts. But, over the past six months the government has done nothing to meet people’s expectations.
