MUZAFFARABAD, Oct, 16: Two girls, including an infant, were killed while their parents and brother were burnt when the tent in which they were living caught fire, here late on Wednesday night. The incident occurred near Kanina village, some 30km south of Muzaffarabad in Jhelum Valley.

The affected family was displaced from Leepa Valley after the devastating earthquake of October 2005, and were living in flimsy tents, police source confirmed here on Thursday.

“Fire was caused by candle during power outage which engulfed the tent, and was gutted within minutes reducing all belongings to ashes,” a district administration official, Asim Awan, told Dawn.

Five years old Seerat and one-month-old Tania were burnt to death while their seven-year-old brother identified as Khalid was severely burnt and was shifted to Muzaffarabad for treatment. Head of the family Mohammad Javed and his wife Shamim, 27, were also burnt but their condition was stated to be out of danger.
