KARACHI, Oct 16: Deposed chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry would be given a rousing welcome on his arrival at the Karachi airport at 10:30 am on Saturday, Bar representatives told a press conference at the Sindh Bar Council (SBC) office here on Thursday.

SBC Executive Chairman Abdul Haleem Siddiqui, Sindh High Court Bar Association President Rasheed A. Razvi and Karachi Bar Association President Mahmoodul Hasan said Justice Chaudhry would be taken in a procession from the airport to the Malir Bar Association office. After a brief stay at the bar office, he would leave for Hyderabad to address a lawyers’ convention scheduled there in the afternoon.

The representatives said the lawyers’ struggle would continue till the last deposed judge was reinstated in accordance with his seniority.

They opposed the fresh oath being administered to the reinstated judges, saying that it legitimised the Nov 3, 2007 proclamation of emergency by the then army chief.

They said politics was a profession of public service and was based on truth. While a dictator may go back on promises, a democratically-elected politician should fulfill his commitments to the nation.
