LONDON, Oct 15: Benazir Bhutto’s death was felt throughout the world, said Queen Elizabeth while remembering her meetings with the slain former prime minister of Pakistan.

The British monarch was exchanging views with Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK Wajid Shamsul Hasan after he had presented his credentials to her at a ceremony held at Buckingham Palace here on Wednesday.

Recollecting her visits to Pakistan in the past, the Queen said she had fond memories of the country. She also praised the contribution made by the diaspora in Britain and wished peace and prosperity to Pakistan and its people.

The formal presentation of the credentials took place in the Bow Hall.

The Queen congratulated Mr Hasan on his appointment as the high commissioner for the second time and hoped Pakistan and Britain would continue enjoying cordial and mutually beneficial relations, particularly in the economic field. Mr Hasan conveyed to the Queen warm wishes from President Asif Zardari.

Mr Hasan and his wife were escorted in a carriage procession from the High Commission to the Palace by Her Majesty’s Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps.
