LAHORE, Oct 15: After the recent appointment of Ijaz Butt as Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) chairman, Shafqat Naghmi, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the board, is considering to resign from the post.
Naghmi, a government employee, who joined the PCB on deputation during the tenure of Dr Nasim Ashraf, has not been attending the office since Friday. Though there are reports that Naghmi was on leave to attend his ailing mother, there are reports he had also been consulting his close friends whether to stay in the board or to go back to his government job.
Naghmi was not present at the Saturday’s meeting of Ijaz with the directors.
Besides Naghmi, Dr Nasim had also hired the services of two other federal officials namely Mansoor Suhail [media director] and Ahmed Farooq, the head of ICC Champions Trophy secretariat.
Mansoor is on a 10-day leave starting from Oct 15 after performing his duty with the national team in Canada, where Shoaib Malik and his men participated in a four-nation Twenty20 tournament.
His position is also not strong, since the new chairman is not happy with him for violating the media policy.
As the ICC Secretariat had been closed due to the postponement of the Champions Trophy till September next year, Farooq is also likely to go back to the federal secretariat, sources said.
