ISLAMABAD, Oct 15: Mainel Baines (Great Britain) eliminated Pakistan’s only hope, fourth seed Aqeel Khan, by defeating him 6-3, 7-5 in the ITF Pakistan Futures International tennis championship at the PTF Tennis Complex here on Wednesday.

Adrian Sikora of Slovakia also created an upset of the championship, hammering second seed Sunil Kumar Sipaeya of India in straight sets to reach the quarter-finals.

Bogdan Leonte (Romania), Hsin-Han Lee (China), Mikhail Vasiliev (Russia), James Feaver (Great Britain), Alexei Filenkov (Russia) and Vadim Alekseenko (Russia) were the other players who succeeded in qualifying for the last-eight round by winning their respective matches.

In the doubles event’s quarter-final, Chinese pair of Chen I-Ta and Lee Hsin-Han outclassed Pakistan’s Jibran Mohammadi and Asim Shafik 6-1, 6-2.
