HYDERABAD, Oct 15: Leaders of action committee of tail-end farmers of Rahuki Shakh have said that the tail-end growers have not been getting water for the last one year as a result 15,000 acres of land has been rendered barren and they have been economically destroyed.

They warned that if water was not released in Rahuki Shakh within three days, they would stage protest demonstrations and hunger strikes and resort to extreme action for which the irrigation officials would be responsible.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Wednesday, Professor Abdul Aziz Umrani, Saifullah Thebo and others said that even drinking water was not available in Korai, Mori, Nando Thebo, Mori Mangar, Jhando Khoso and other villages.

The irony is that the villagers had been voting for the Pakistan People’s Party for the last 40 years but the present PPP government has disappointed them, they said. “We have been raising full throated slogan of Jeay Bhutto but the tragedy is that Bhutto is not alive”, they said and added that had he been alive, he would not have tolerated such injustice.

They said that they had met with the irrigation engineer and chief engineer concerned on several occasions and also complained to the elected representatives but their problem had not been solved.

In connivance with the irrigation officials, farmers at the upper stretch of the canal and influential people were usurping water share of the tail-end growers, they alleged.

They appealed to the president, Sindh chief minister, irrigation minister and secretary and elected representatives of the area to intervene in the matter and ensure that the tail-end growers of Rahuki Shakh were provided their water share.

WHEAT CROP: Sindh Seed Corporation managing director Gul Hassan Sandh has directed officials of the corporation to guide farmers on wheat cultivation.

Speaking at a meeting of agricultural and technical experts at his office here on Wednesday, he said that the officials should guide growers about correct methods of wheat cultivation by using certified seeds.

He said that an advisory cell was being established to provide information to farmers.
