Vengsarkar blasts Kumble

Published October 14, 2008

NEW DELHI, Oct 13: Former Test cricketer and chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar on Monday lashed out at Indian captain Anil Kumble for playing the first Test at Bangalore despite not being fully fit and held him responsible for letting the team down against the Aussies.

Pre-match reports said Kumble was not 100 per cent fit and yet he, allegedly, forced his way into the team for the series opener. “Unfit Kumble is letting the team down by such moves,” said Vengsarkar. “If Kumble could not bowl more overs then he should have not played,” he said and added that the skipper should have earlier come clean to the selectors on his fitness.

Vengsarkar also criticised Kumble for not allowing Virender Sehwag enough overs in the two innings of the match.—Agencies
