KARACHI, Oct 10: Aslam Lashari, a man said to be closely linked with Rehman Dakait, along with his two unidentified associates was allegedly gunned down by members of their rival gang in Lashari Mohallah in the limits of Pak Colony police station on Friday.

The killings come after a lull in the fighting between the gangs of Rehman Dakait and Arshad Pappu following a police operation in Lyari which resulted in the ouster of Ghaffar Zikri from Lyari. Ghaffar Zikri is believed to be the front man of Arshad Pappu.

However, Friday’s incident has also been seen as a spillover of the gang warfare to the peripheral areas -- in this case, Trans Lyari.

Police said Aslam Lashari who was an absconder and wanted in some 50 criminal cases had come to his old neighborhood of Lashari Mohallah in Jehanabad to visit his parents.

He along with his two associates was gunned down allegedly by the members of the Arshad Pappu group who reportedly are in control of the Jehanabad area.

Following the incident, tension gripped the area and all business activities were closed down. The area reverberated with intermittent firing terrorizing the area residents.

Local people said that after the incident police and Rangers were unable to enter the locality due to heavy firing.

However, bodies were shifted to the Civil Hospital when police entered the locality. Hospital sources said the victim’s body bore multiple bullet wounds fired from a close-range.

The killing also caused tension in Lyari now considered a stronghold of Rehman Dakait following the ouster of the Ghaffar Zikri from the area.

Following the incident police patrol has also been increased in the sensitive areas of Lyari to tackle any possible law and order situation.

Meanwhile, a young man was killed and another wounded when some men opened fire on them in Korangi on Friday morning.Police said the incident occurred in Korangi No1 when the assailants on a motorcycle opened fire killing Mohammad Shariq alias Shani on the spot and wounding Mohammad Qamar.

Police said the victim was a resident of Korangi Sector 32-B.

After the incident the victims were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment and legal formalities.

‘Arms supplier’ arrested

Police said following a shootout the suspect, Noor Sharif, was arrested. Five Kalashnikovs and three 9mm pistols were recovered from his possession.

The encounter took place near Kharkar Chowrangi in Clifton, police claimed.

The suspect was travelling in a taxi (JL-5326) in which the arms and ammunition were allegedly being shifted. Police also recovered 2500 rounds of AK-47 rifle from the taxi.
