TOBA TEK SINGH, Oct 9: Dozens of cattle have died from foot, mouth and other viral diseases in several villages of the Moongi area of Gojra tehsil.

Farmers say dozens of their cattle have died over the last two days. The most affected villages are Chak 241-GB, 242-GB, 243-GB, 178-GB, 179-GB and 180-GB.

A Livestock and Dairy Development Department official said his department had no information about the death of dozens of animals. He, however, said the department was informed about the death of two cattle in Chak 178-GB. He said the department had sent the limbs of these animals to a Lahore lab for a chemical examination.

He also said that animals of the Moongi area had already been vaccinated against the diseases.

HUNGER STRIKE: A hunger strike camp was set up at the district barroom by lawyers here on Thursday for the reinstatement of deposed chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and other judges.

On this occasion the district bar also held a general body meeting. Gojra and Kamalia tehsil bars also observed complete strike.
