RAWALPINDI, Oct 8: Local police on Wednesday booked Adiala Jail’s superintendent on charges of illegally detaining an undertrial prisoner, officials said.

The name of the superintendent was not mentioned in the FIR registered with the Civil Lines police; however, he was accused of illegally detaining an undertrial prisoner who was to be produced in the court of Civil Judge Tahir Khan Niazi.

The complainant said in the FIR that Mohammad Rafiq, who was arrested by the Saddar Bairooni police in a brawl case, was brought to the court from Adiala Jail for his trial, but he was shifted back to the prison without being produced before the judge.

After it was brought into the notice of the court, the judge ordered the police to register a case against the superintendent jail.
