DEMO: A large number of job seekers held a demonstration outside the press club on Sunday in protest against denial of appointment letters and publication of a fresh advertisement for teachers’ jobs.
Manzoor Arisar, Jetho Mal and Jalal Shah, who were leading the protest, said that after passing an IBA-conducted test for teachers’ jobs they had been protesting for weeks against denial of appointment letters but instead of giving them job letters the education department had placed a new advertisement in newspapers for teachers’ jobs.
They said that the slogan of merit was just a hoax and rejected the condition of 60 per cent marks to pass the job test.
There was a great difference in the standard of education in rural and urban areas, they argued.
They reiterated that the World Bank had not imposed the condition of 60 per cent marks. The fresh advertisement had been published to appoint teachers on political and not on merit basis.
