KARACHI, Oct 5: Two men, including a worker of the Sunni Tehreek, were killed in acts of violence in separate parts of the city on Sunday, police and witnesses said.
The Brigade police said ST worker Abdus Sattar was shot dead early in the morning near Abyssinia Line.
The victim’s brother, Abdul Ghaffar, reported to the police that his brother was a newspaper hawker and had left their home (D-13) at Jacob Lines for work at around 6am. He stated an unknown caller informed the family at around 7.30am that his brother had been killed and his body was lying near the Finance and Trade Centre. The victim’s motorbike was also found near the body.
The body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination. Sources at the JPMC’s medico-legal section told Dawn that the victim had received two bullets, one in the neck and the other to the head, from a point-blank range as both bullets pierced his skull.
The police said the victim had married five months back and was an activist of the Sunni Tehreek.
Fratricide
A 42-year-old man, father of three, was axed to death in his Quaidabad home allegedly by his brother.
The police said they had arrested the 25-year-old suspect, Akhtar Zaman, for killing his brother, Wariz Khan.
They said the wife of the victim was also taken into custody for questioning.
Illegal SIMs
In a crackdown against the sale of illegal SIMs, police raided and arrested 24 persons in Zone West and seized a number of SIMs being illegally sold.
A statement issued by the investigation wing of Zone West said the police raided different outlets and arrested 24 persons for not following the legal formalities laid down by the Pakistan Telecom Authority. Shopkeepers have been told to avoid such illegal trade.
