LAHORE, Sept 30: The Punjab government is learnt to have terminated the contractual service of Punjab Entertainment Company Managing-Director Fazeel Asif Jah.

Jah was hired by the previous government to run the company whose major project was controversial IMAX Theatre. But, he has been criticised by the present government mainly for his hefty pay, and lavish office.

His termination was termed by government officials on Tuesday as a major step towards winding up the company.

But, they also confirmed that it had also come at a time when a foreign firm from which the company wanted to purchase video screens, had filed a damages suit in a local court for not fulfilling terms of the contract signed with it.

The Chinese circus company which was to perform in October under another agreement with the company had also sent a legal notice to demand damages again for violating a contract with it.

Official sources informed Dawn on Tuesday that he had been fired on the recommendation of a supervisory committee. They said the funds of the company and its several vehicles too had been withdrawn.
