KASUR, Sept 29: Robbers shot a bus passenger dead while injured two others on offering resistance during a highway robbery near Arien Model Farm on Multan Road in Pattoki Sadar police precincts on Sunday night.

A gang of robbers blocked the road by throwing wooden logs and started looting buses, vans and cars.

The motorway police did not reach the spot as they were allegedly resting in their cars.

Some passengers from an Arifwala-bound bus offered resistance on which the robbers shot at them, killing Riaz Ahmad on the spot while injuring Sadiq and Allaha Ditta.

The Sadar police reached the spot one hour after it received the information about the incident.

Later, they registered a case and started investigations without any arrest till the filing of this report.

HIT-AND-RUN: A boy was killed while his younger brother was injured when a speeding vehicle ran over them near Khudian Khan on Monday.

Muhammad Afzal and his younger brother Amjad riding on a bicycle were going to their school in Kacha Pakka village when a luggage carrier of a factory hit them near Dhing Shah, killing Afzal on spot while injuring Amjad.

The injured was taken to Lahore General Hospital in critical condition. The police have registered a case against the fleeing driver.

MISHAP: As many as 16 passengers sustained injuries when a speeding van overturned near Kandoo Khara on Monday.

Driver of the Lahore-bound van from Chunian lost control over the steering and the vehicle turned turtle, injuring Muhammad Saeed and 15 others.

In another accident, constable Muhammad Shafique of the Raiwind Sadar police was run over by a speeding tractor-trolley. He was later buried in his hometown.
