SIALKOT, Sept 29: A major act of sabotage was averted in Sialkot after police arrested a car rider and recovered weapons in large quantity from his vehicle in Uggoki on Monday.
DPO Capt Muhammad Ameen (retired) disclosed this while addressing a press conference here. DSP (City) Waseem Akhtar and senior district peace committee member Zafar Malik were also present.
The DPO said the police intercepted a car (LEP-6544) near Nole Morr in Uggoki and recovered 31 pistols, 19 rifles, 26,000 cartridges and other weapons from the vehicle after checking. He said the police arrested the accused, Kashif Iqbal, a resident of Billo Chak village, Sambrial.
The accused told the police that the seized weapons were to be used in some subversive activity in the Sialkot district. He said that weapons were smuggled from the NWFP.
Police have sent the accused behind the bars and started investigation.
