Poor women get injuries as Eidee

GUJRANWALA, Sept 29: Over two dozen destitute women seeking Eidee were injured in a stampede, two of them seriously at a factory on the GT Road here on Monday.

Reports said the owners of an electric appliances factory announced they would distribute Eidee among the destitute women. The announcement attracted some 5,000 poor women who gathered outside the factory’s main gate waiting for their turn to get alms in a queue.

But, sudden increase in the number of women resulted in gatecrash and stampede. As a result, at least a dozen women suffered injuries. They were admitted to local DHQ hospital where the condition of two women was stated to be serious.

The factory administration stopped the distribution of Eidee following the untoward incident.

NABBED: Three dacoits caught red-handed while breaking shutters of shops in a market, were thrashed by security guards and shopkeepers on Monday.

Reports said the dacoits were trying to brake the shutters to take away valuables and cash etc when market guards caught them and called the shopkeepers union leaders.

The shopkeepers on reaching there manhandled the dacoits and some of them even tried to burn them but police intervened and arrested the outlaws -- Rashid, Khalil and Yasir.

A case has been registered against the accused and investigation was underway.

Wajahat Force: The local anti-terrorism court (No 1) accepted the bail application of nine activists of Wajahat Force of Gujrat while fixed October 10 for the other 16 accused here on Monday.

Gujrat police had arrested the accused for indulging in illegal activities about a week ago.

Boy Recovered: Police on Monday arrested the six outlaws who had kidnapped and then released a BA student after receiving Rs2 million ransom the same day.

A BA student, Mudassar, son of landlord Bashir, was kidnapped for ransom by six armed outlaws from an outhouse in Sadar area about a week ago.

The kidnappers demanded Rs2 million for his release. The boys’ family paid the ransom to the kidnappers and got him released.

The police, who were keeping an eye on the criminals, chased and arrested them the same day.

Those arrested are identified as Dastagir, Rashid, Babar, Khalid, Ghulam Sidiq and Shaukat alias Shehzad etc.

Police also recovered illicit arms and ransom amount from the outlaws.

Meanwhile, a property dealer, Amin Iqbal, of Approach Road who was kidnapped for Rs3.5 million ransom by unidentified outlaws some two days ago could not be recovered so far.
