PESHAWAR, Sept 27: Work on FIFA Goal Project at Peshawar’s Shahi Bagh will commence soon after Eid-ul-Fitr, President of the NWFP Football Association and Provincial Health Minister Syed Zahir Ali Shah told reporters on Saturday.

He said that the grant of $550,000 for the project has already been approved by FIFA. The project will boast of facilities such as a training centre, football field, accommodation for the players and offices.

Syed Zahir Ali Shah, who is also senior vice president of the Pakistan Football Federation, said the project will serve as a basic institution to help promote soccer on modern lines.

FIFA, Pakistan Football Federation along with the NWFP government will play a significant role in shouldering the financial burden when full-fledged construction work on the Earthquake Project, to be built under the FIFA Hope Programme gets underway at Peshawar after Eid-ul-Fitr.

“FIFA Goal Project Development Officer Vernon Manilal Fernando has already approved a known contractor for the construction,” said Zahir Shah.

Football-related activities being implemented with FIFA funds comprise a training centre in Muzaffarabad, redevelopment of the Khurshid Stadium football ground, construction of accommodation and offices besides redevelopment of the Kunj ground and basic office facilities in Abbottabad.—APP
