Afridi steers Tapal CC to semi-finals

KARACHI, Sept 27: Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi grabbed three wickets as Tapal Cricket Club entered the Karachi Gymkhana Twenty20 Ramazan cricket tournament semi-finals overpowering Star XI by 14 runs at the KG Ground on Friday.

In a low-scoring match, Tapal CC, electing to bat first, scored 123 all out in the stipulated 20 overs with spinners Salman Fazal Khan and Jaffer Qureshi sharing six wickets between them, with Salman getting three wickets for 17 in his four overs while Jaffer taking three for 22.

Ahmed Zeeshan Malik emerged as the top-scorer with 29 off 24 balls with a six and a boundary and Mansoor Baig hit two boundaries in his 24 off 26 balls.

Star XI, in reply, were restricted to 109-8 in 20 overs. Opener Mohammad Jawaid made 29 off 32 balls with three hits to the boundary. Afridi was the main tormentor for Star XI batsmen, claiming three wickets for 17 in four overs.
