TOBA TEK SINGH, Sept 27: Police on Saturday rescued a doctor at Chak 189-GB, Patli, after supporters of a former union council naib nazim besieged his office over an alleged theft case.
Reports said police had registered a theft case against Dr Ghulam Abbas, in-charge of the basic health unit, on the complaint of former UC naib nazim Akhtar Abbas for allegedly cutting and stealing trees from the compound of the BHU.
On Saturday, health department official Dr Ansar visited the BHU to hold an inquiry against Dr Abbas. The accused doctor and supporters of former naib nazim exchanged hot words on which Dr Ansar went back without conducting a probe.
Later, supporters of the complainant besieged the office of the accused doctor who called the police. A team reached there and rescued the doctor.
No case had so far been registered of this incident.
SI BOOKED: Kamalia city police on Saturday registered a case against its sub-inspector Sher Muhammad under section 155 C of Police Order 2002 for tampering with record.
According to the FIR, Faisalabad regional police officer Aslam Tareen had written to the local police that the SI had tampered with the record file of a murder case and made fake signatures of the complainant and witnesses of the case.
The accused had not so far been arrested.
FLOUR: Flour shortage continued in the town on Saturday and citizens had to face hardships in getting bags.
A district food department official claimed that 200 extra bags were supplied at selected shops. However, long queues were again seen at Sasta bazaar and utility store.
The district administration has selected 46 'tandoors' which will be provided with 20kg bag at Rs250 for sale of roti at Rs2.
A press release said 10 'tandoors' each would be supplied with subsidised flour at Toba, Gojra, Pirmahal and Kamalia.
Food grain inspectors and other food department officials would supervise the supply of flour to 'tandoors' and the sale of roti at fixed price, the release added.
MONEY ORDERS: As many as 6,468 deserving people of the district have received money orders worth Rs1,000 each in the first phase of the food support programme of the chief minister.
Punjab Social Welfare Minister Begum Neelum Jabbar said on Saturday the deserving would be eligible to purchase ghee, flour, sugar and pulses from selected shops.
