KARACHI, Sept 27: A suspected robber was severely injured on Saturday when the people who had caught him red-handed gave him a hiding in Orangi Town, police and witnesses said.
The Pakistan Bazaar police said that four dacoits barged into the house of Shahabuddin, a factory worker, in the afternoon. They said the inmates raised an alarm and people gathered around the house. The police said the dacoits smelling a rat fled the scene, but one of them was caught by the people.
They said the people beat the suspect, who went unconscious.
The unconscious suspect was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in a critical condition. Hospital sources said the suspect received multiple fractures in his four limbs.
The suspect remained unidentified till late in the night.
Robbed
A director of a TV channel was robbed of Rs900,000 near the National Stadium.
The New Town police said Rana Mohammed Iqbal with his four colleagues was on his way in his Cultus after withdrawing the money from a bank near Mumtaz Manzil in the Aziz Bhatti police area when he was waylaid by four occupants of a white Honda City.
The police registered a case (377/2008) against unknown culprits on the complaint of Rana Mohammed Iqbal, under Sections 392 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The police said the Aziz Bhatti SHO was transferred and ordered to report to the police headquarters in the aftermath of the robbery as the dacoits were believed to have been chasing the victim since he withdrew the money from the bank.
Electrocuted
A 22-year-old electrician was electrocuted in Clifton.
The police said Mohammed Ijaz, son of Mehram Ali, a resident of Shireen Jinnah Colony, was working at a general store when he received a fatal electric shock. They said the victim died instantly.
The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and later handed over to the victim’s family.
