BAHAWALPUR, Sept 26: A woman, her two children and a railway police constable were killed and nine other people were injured when a train derailed after a blast near Hasilpur on Friday.

A bomb placed on the track exploded when the train going to Mandi Sadiq Ganj from Sammasatta via Bahawalnagar was about to reach the Hasilpur station.

The explosion derailed the three coaches of the train, damaged about 60 metres of the track and left a crater at the place, local people said.

A relief train was sent from the Sammasatta railway junction.Federal Inspector of Railways Rana Saeed Akhtar has been deputed to conduct an inquiry into the incident.

Two of the injured were in serious condition.

The bodies of the woman, Musarrat, her four-year-old son Danish and two-year-old Mohsin and constable Khalid Mehmood were taken to the tehsil headquarters hospital.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani have condemned the blast and expressed sympathy with the bereaved families.

Sources said the bomb was of high intensity and the blast had shattered windowpanes of a nearby building.
