LAHORE, Sept 23: There will be an interesting and close competition between a quartet of unknown pedigree fillies and a mare when they measure strides during the midweek Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Wednesday.

Pawan Princess, Sana My Love, Luka Toni and Polo Lounge are the top contenders in a big field of 18 runners, barring last-minute withdrawals.

The two bay fillies Pawan Princess and Sana my Love are on a hat-trick trail after having won two races each. The red-roan filly Luka Toni has to her credit a facile victory and will be on the trot to make it a two in a row. Though a speedy mare, Polo Lounge has remained unlucky to cap a victory and has been placed low the weight scales in the handicap.

The main contest should be between Pawan Princess and Luka Toni while the other two may fight for a place in the fourth race in the racing order.

The feature event, the Sahiwal Plate, class VI, division II has 11 runners if there are no last-minute withdrawals. Three of them qualify as the real contenders on form and recent showing. They are Geo Bhakkar, Victory King and Jang Ju. Love Minister and Love Story look good on bloodline but have shown much form recently.Last Wednesday, Geo Bhakkar, registered an easy victory and would be going all out to make it two in a row in the sixth and last race of the day.

The five-year-old bay mare, Mahima, who was beaten on her previous outing should make amends this time and win the fifth and supporting event. High Quality and Naseeb Apna Apna would be her challengers.

Golden Falcon, who was unlucky to be beaten by Sana My Love on his previous outing last Wednesday should avenge his defeat and win the third race. Client and Kiss Of Love are good for places.

Boby Love, Sohail and Leader’s Wing attract attention on form in the 11 drawn for the second race. Boby Love in spite of being placed on top of the weight scales at nine stones and two pounds should prevail over others. Sohail would be his main challenger.

Lal Pari, Pakistani and Pukkar are the pick of the 11 runners, who may fight to pick up the spoils in the opener. This is the class VII, lowest division, consisting of runners, who have been relegated in the handicap being unable to compete in upper divisions.

Wednesday’s six-event card promises close contests in almost all the six events. All races will be contested over the sprinting distance of 900 metres. The first race will be held at 2.00pm.
