LAHORE, Sept 23: The Capital City Police have so far detained 119 suspects from the city in connection with Islamabad Marriott Hotel bombing on Sept 20, Dawn has learnt.

Sources said police conducted raids in different parts of the city on Tuesday and took at least 30 people, including existing and former members of some banned religious outfits, in custody.

Police had detained 60 people on Sept 21 and 29 on Sept 22, they said.

“The detained people are being questioned for their direct or indirect links with the elements thought to be involved in recent terrorism activities,” the sources said.

A police official told Dawn that under schedule 4 of the Anti-terrorism Act, the people who had been released by the courts on submitting surety bonds up to Rs1 million for their alleged involvement in terrorist/sectarian activities, were bound to report to police stations concerned after specific intervals.

“Such people are called in after any major incident for questioning and in case of their intentional absence, courts cancel their bails and declare them proclaimed offenders,” the official added.

Details were not available about the total detention in other parts of the province.
