Rs0.8m heist at Wapda’s office

OKARA, Sept 23: A gang took away cash and valuables worth over Rs800,000 from the Wapda sub-divisional office at Deepalpur late on Monday night.

Reports said 11 armed men came to Wapda’s Deepalpur office and roped the employees -- Jamaat Ali, Sarwar and Abdur Rahman. They collected cash, cell phones and transformer accessories, all worth Rs836,496 and escaped. The Deepalpur police registered a case.

DPO: District Police Officer Ihsan Sadiq, accompanied by SP Zulfiqar Gujjar, on Tuesday visited the site of roof collapse and ordered action against the owner of the house whose wall collapse caused an adjacent house’s roof to cave in.

About Iftar time, four-year-old Wajeeha and one-year-old Ismail were buried alive when the wall of their neighbour fell on the roof of their room. The DPO directed DSP (city) Younis Butt and TMO Kanwar Anwar Ali to take strict action against the owner of the house the wall of which collapsed for being improperly built.

Federal Parliamentary Secretary MNA Chaudhry Sajjadul Hassan, ex-provincial minister Rana Ikram Rabbani and ex-MPA Chaudhry Ikramul Haq were among a number of people who attended the funeral prayers of the two children. They were laid to rest in the city’s main graveyard.

Qul will be held today (Wednesday) at Jamia Masjid, Lakkar Mandi.
