SHIKARPUR: Teachers stage demo

Published September 24, 2008

SHIKARPUR, Sept 23: Primary and secondary schoolteachers staged a protest demonstration here in Chak Town.

The event was organised to protest the release of a man accused of misappropriating GP funds of the medical superintendent of Chak Hospital and around 10 primary and secondary schoolteachers of taluka Lakhi Ghulam Shah. The suspect, Khadim Hussain Mahar, has also allegedly stolen service books of these teachers.

A case was registered against the suspect on the complaint of the MS, Dr Aziz Ahmed Soomro, and Shahzado Mahar, supervisor of primary schools of taluka Lakhi Ghulam at the Chak police station.

Subsequently, the suspect was arrested and was kept in detention at the police lockup, but was later released after three days allegedly by bribing the relevant station-house officer (SHO).

The protesting teachers led by their representatives Zamir Hussain Jagirani, Hafeezullah Mahar and Abdul Hakeem Mahar, also alleged that the SHO was employing pressure tactics to settle the matter outside court.

The affected teachers and the medical superintendent urged the Sindh chief minister, home minister, RPO Sukkur, DIG operations Larkana, and DPO Shikarpur to re-arrest the suspect and take action against him.
