HYDERABAD, Sept 20: Profusely congratulating Asif Ali Zardari on his election as the President of Pakistan and assuring full support of his party to him, the president of Sindh United Party, Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah, expressed the hope that he will rise to the occasion and change the destiny of the country.

In a letter addressed to the president, a copy of which was also faxed to Dawn here on Saturday, Mr Shah said that all the multi-faceted problems like water and funds distribution, poverty, unemployment, law and order and terrorism Pakistan is facing today will not only be addressed but resolved by the president.

He referred to the letters sent by his grandfather, G.M. Syed to then President, Z.A.Bhutto on August 19, 1972, and prior to that to Khan Liaquat Ali Khan (1947 and 1951) as well as to Khwaja Nizamuddin, the second prime minister of Pakistan, seeking their indulgence for taking necessary steps to make Pakistan a viable federation.

Mr Shah said that Pakistan has been facing a crisis of legitimacy ever since its creation in 1947. He said the country is being run under the myth of a strong centre for the last 61 years.

He, however, said that his party strongly believed that only autonomous federating units.
